It was difficult for me to find the spices mix for sambar masala....Thus, I asked my friend for a sambar recipe, and I had all the ingredients in my pantry....so, I made it at home
Ingredients
30 grams Dry Red Chilli
20 grams Kashmiri Chilli
30 grams Coriander Seeds
30 grams Fenugreek Seeds
75 grams Chana Dal 4 tbsp
45 grams Urad Dal 2.5 tbsp
45 grams Rice
25 grams Asafoetida
10 Curry Leaves
1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
In a cast iron pan, roast for 3 minutes each of the ingredients separately in the list above (except the asafoetida). Roast the turmeric and curry leaves 1 minute only. Once everything is cool down, grind everything in a grinder. Keep it in a dark place, and use it accordingly. I will post my sambar and idlis in the next post. ENJOY!!
Love masala!I have to try to make this blend myself too. Is rice a necessary ingredient?
ReplyDeleteHi Angie!...yes, according to my friend rice is necessary....Abrazotes, Marcela
DeleteI have never made my own Masala, I buy it at the local Asian store where they blend their own. In the house right now I have Chat Masala, Garam Masala and Tandoori Masala. We use Garam Masala more than the other two.
ReplyDeleteI World like to use my own masala species. I need to to it.XXXXX
