Facturas from Argentina

It was love at first sight!

I saw these facturas from Argentina in Instagram and immediately I went to make it! I love facturas for breakfast, and I missed not traveling to Argentina.....my kitchen smelled Argentina during this weekend!!

Facturas from Argentina  (from  https://www.instagram.com/gabocolacioppo/  )

Dough
500 g flour.
250 ml water.
2 teaspoons of salt.
2 teaspoons dried yeast.
60 g sugar.
1 tbsp oil.
100 grams softened butter
 flour.

Vanilla pastry cream
500 ml milk.
2 eggs
50 g cornstarch.
1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 teaspoon vanilla paste
125 g sugar.

Syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1/2 cup of water
3 tablespoon of sugar
Combine water and sugar and simmer it until it reduces 1/2. Add vanilla essence and set aside.

Dough
Combine water, sugar, and yeast. Let it foam for 10 minutes. Mix with the remaining ingredients. Knead it for 10 minutes. Let it rise for 1 hour.
In the meantime, make the vanilla pastry cream. Simmer at low temperature 250 ml of milk with vanilla and sugar for 5 minutes. Mix the eggs with cornstarch, and slowly add the milk. Place everything together in a pot, and heat it until it thickens. Stir it constantly. Set aside.
With a roll pin, flatten the dough up to 1-2 mm. Add the softened butter, and sprinkle it with flour.

Roll it and cut in pieces of 10 cm. Let it rest for an hour.

Stretch it by hand and roll it. Make a knot and flatten the interior like making a nest.

Place the pastry cream in the center and let it rise for 1 hour. Brush it with a mix of egg yolk and milk.

Bake them for  20-25  minutes at 180°C. When they are hot, brush them  with syrup. ENJOY!

  2. Many good things come from Argentina, including immigrants who have contributed a great deal to society here. Good one and now good desserts too!
