Chickpeas from Yemen

Last winter legumes!....we are having a very nice warm weather +26C, and that means legumes season is over....well not for me...I love legumes all year long!

I found another interesting and delicious dish in Youtube. Immediately I cook it, and we loved it!

I don't know the name of the dish, but its origin is from Yemen.

Chickpeas from Yemen

400 grams dried chickpeas,  soaked overnight
400 gm red onion  chopped
5  garlic cloves grated
1 piece of ginger 3.5 cm grated
Olive oil
1/2 teaspoon Spanish paprika
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin seeds freshly grinded
1 teaspoon coriander freshly grinded
1 teaspoon turmeric
2 teaspoon salt
450 grams tomatoes pureed
1 cup chopped coriander leaves

Cook the chickpeas in a pressure cooker for 30-40 minutes. Set aside

In a pot, heat olive oil, and add onions, garlic, and ginger. Cook it until is translucent. Add all the spices, and let it simmer for 5 minutes. Add the tomatoes, and let it simmer for another 5 minutes at medium low temperature.
Take 1/4 cup of the cooked chickpeas, and puree them in a small food processor with some water. Add the blended chickpeas to the mix, and then incorporate the remaining cooked chickpeas. Add the chopped coriander, and mix it. Correct it for salt and chili powder. ENJOY!

  2. The Indian version of making chickpeas and the Yemen Chickpeas are quite similar but with less spices.
