Empezemos este viaje.....este año el Heritage Festival  tuvo su exposicion numero 35 de inmigrantes viviendo en Alberta (Canada). Esta vez, 63 pabellones representaron mas de 85 culturas las cuales presentaron sus danzas y cantos tipicos, mostraron sus artesanias, y prepararon sus comidas tipicas.

Usted puede ver el menu en este enlace. Como podra entender, fue imposible probar todo, pero hicimos un esfuerzo en probar todo lo que pudimos. Ahora, lo invito a ver e imaginar el sabor de lo que experimentamos........

En Afghanistan, probamos bolani con yogurt....Es un increiblemente sabroso pan relleno con papas, cebollines y especias. Si puede probarlo....hagalo.....no se arrepentira!!....

En el stand Arabe, encontramos algo fantastico!!...Una dama muy simpatica estaba haciendo pan fresco.....y por supuesto........lo probamos!!

Como seria un buen Festival de Comidas sin empanadas?....Por supuesto....empanadas de queso en el stand de Chile...

Una delicia gastronomica.....

Amo la comida de Eritrea y Etiopia. Durante mis estudios de postgrado, tuve companeros de Eritrea y Etiopia, y ellos me introdujeron esta maravillosa comida!!

En el local de Eritrea, probe un maravilloso Timtmo, un maravilloso plato de lentejas con especias servido con injera....

En el stand de Etiopia no solo disfrutamos de la ceremonia del cafe (Te acuerdas Esmyra de la ceremonia del cafe con Getu?), pero tambien de  Misir Wat (un sabroso estofado de lentejas), Injera y pan Etiope....

Let's begin the trip.....this year the Heritage Festival had its 35th annual showcase of immigrants living in Alberta (Canada). This year sixty-three pavilions represented over eighty-five cultures displayed performances, showed handicrafts, and prepared typical foods.

You can see the countries and the menu in this link. As you may understand, it was impossible to taste everything, but we did our best to try everything we could. Now, I invite you to see and imagine the taste of what we experienced........

In Afghanistan, we tried bolani with yogurt....It was an incredible tasty bread filled with potatoes, green onions, and spices. If you can try it, then do it!!....

In the Arab pavilion, we encountered something fantastic!!...A nice lady was making fresh bread......and of course.....we taste it!!

The Arab bread was not only fresh, but also it was delicious!!!

What a good Food Festival would be without empanadas?....Of course....cheese empanadas in the Chilean Pavilion...

A gastronomical delight.....

I love Eritrean and Ethiopian food. During my graduate studies, I had classmates from Eritrea  and Ethiopia, and they introduced me to that wonderful food!!

In the Eritrea stand, I tried a wonderful Timtmo, a wonderful spicy lentil dish served with injera....

In the Ethiopian stand not only we enjoyed the coffee ceremony (Do you remember Esmyra the coffee ceremony with Getu?), but also the Misir Wat ( a savory lentil stew), Injera and Ethiopian bread.....

Un Maravilloso Fin de Semana....Comida y Patrimonio....The Heritage Festival!!

Este fin de semana estuve muy ocupada. Vine a visitar a uno de los festivales que más me gusta en Canadá, que es el Heritage Festival (Festival de la Humanidad) en Edmonton. A pesar de que hay muchos Heritage Festival en América del Norte durante el verano, este es el que más me gusta.

Stand de Venezuela (para ti Hilmar)

Este festival es especial para mí. Durante estos años al vivir fuera de mi cultura y país, he reconocido los desafíos que enfrentan los inmigrantes. He conocido personas que venían de países invadisos, gente que llegó con heridas físicas y emocionales de la guerra, que escaparon de la discriminación y la intolerancia religiosa, y muchos otros con  historias tristes que me han afectado profundamente. Sin embargo, lo que es especial de este festival es que durante tres días se muestra al mundo no sólo lo agradecidos que estamos por vivir en este país, sino también cómo estamos orgullosos de nuestras raíces, cultura, patrimonio y gastronomía. 


Se trata de tres días en que se organiza cada comunidad para mostrar su país por la preparación de alimentos tradicionales (no se permiten restaurantes), el canto de canciones tradicionales, bailes folclóricos de música y  muestras de artesanias y utensilios de cocina tradicional. Es maravilloso y muy emocionante ver cómo los nietos de los inmigrantes bailan con trajes tradicionales danzas típicas de su país de origen, a pesar de que algunos de estos los niños no conocen su país de origen, pero sus familias mantienen vivas las tradiciones.

Estos son días donde la gente se olvida de las diferencias de idiomas y religión, dejan de pensar en la intolerancia y la discriminación, ponen fuera de su mente la raza, el color y el lugar en que nacimos ...... Es tiempo de festival  !!!.... Es un tiempo para compartir, aceptar, respetar, honrar y estar lleno de orgullo de ambos del país que hemos elegido, y el país de donde venimos  .....es el momento de compartir en paz, de comer nuestra comida y de disfrutar de nuestro patrimonio .........

Este post está dedicado a nuestro patrimonio, el patrimonio que tomamos de nuestros hogares, el país y antepasados. La herencia que nos sigue, no importa a donde vamos o lo que hacemos, el patrimonio que usamos en nuestra vida cotidiana y nuestra cocina, la herencia que pasamos a nuestras futuras generaciones ...... el patrimonio de aceptar, adoptar y compartir .....el patrimonio de hacer estos post de comida .....

Voy a publicar fotos de la comida y bailes de este Festival durante esta semana para que usted pueda disfrutar de nuestro patrimonio!

This weekend has been very busy. I came to visit one of the festivals that I like the most in Canada, which is the Heritage Festival in Edmonton. Even though there are many Heritage Festival in North America during the summer, this is the one that I like the most.

The Edmonton Heritage Festival is special to me. During these years living away from my culture and country, I have recognized the challenges that we immigrants face. I have known people that came from invaded countries, arrived with emotional and physical wounds from the war,  escaped from discrimination and religious intolerance, and many others more with sad stories that have deeply impacted myself. However, what is special about this festival is that for three days we show to the world not only how grateful we are for living in this country, but also how proud we are of our roots, culture, heritage and cuisine. These are three days where each community gets organized to showcase its country by preparing traditional food (no restaurants are allowed), singing traditional songs, dancing folk music, and showing handicrafts and traditional  food utensils. Its wonderful and very emotional to see how the grandchildren of the immigrants dance with traditional costumes typical dances from their country of origin, even though some of these children doesn't know their country of origin, but their families keep traditions alive.

These are days where people forget about differences in languages and religion, stop thinking about intolerance and discrimination, put out of their mind race, color, and the place we were born......It is festival time!!!....It is a time to share, embrace, respect, honor, and be full of pride of both the country we have chosen, and the country where we come from.....it is time to share in peace, to eat our food, and to enjoy our heritage.........

The heritage that follows us no matter where we go or what we do, the heritage that we use in our daily life and our cooking, the heritage that we pass into our future generations......the heritage we accept, adopt and share in these food postings.....
